Metrolinx & TTC Standard Development

The 15.6 kilometer, 15-stop Ontario Subway Line creates faster easier connections to travel within Toronto and beyond. It runs from Exhibition Place, through the heart of downtown, and all the way to the Ontario Science Centre. This provides a larger, more connected transit system that makes it easier to travel the entire region.

Scope of Work

In collaboration with a Design Architect and a wider team, we provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering consulting services for the development of the DS-09 Design Standards for the Ontario Line.

The standard was designed so the customer experience is seamless, intuitive, inclusive, safe, thoughtful, and reliable throughout. The human-centric approach considers many touchpoints such as payment experience, transferring, navigation, platform boarding and disembarking, as well as spatial adjacencies and sensory aspects such as noise, smells, and sight lines which may impact the quality of a customer’s experience.

Key features of the standard including approach and guidance for platform edge doors, IT and security details, and improved lighting concepts.

This standard, and the associated Peer Review tool, will be used on many future projects by Design Engineers representing TTC or Infrastructure Ontario.
