DECIEM GMP Production Facility Upgrades

We are very proud to have been involved in this high-profile GMP manufacturing space for DECIEM with SvN Architects + Planners, Atkins + Van Groll Consulting Engineers, and Harrington and Associates Ltd.

DECIEM is the umbrella of beauty brands including The Ordinary, NIOD and Hylamide. Their existing and aging 120,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and packaging facility at 123 Eastside, Toronto, required a major renovation to modernize its ongoing operations and bring the facility into compliance with current requirements for cosmetics compounding, sanitization, filling and packaging. This renovation also provides additional manufacturing capacity to increase product production to satisfy DECIEM's current growth profile.

Scope of Work

As part of the project scope of work, a phased construction approach was required to ensure the continued operation of their manufacturing and packaging departments. New dedicated air handling systems were provided for the various departments to allow for the phased build-out.

The facility was classified as an F2 Industrial Occupancy with flammable and combustible liquid dispensing rooms, raw material dust extraction rooms, palletized chemical storage rooms and an analytical laboratory with acid digestion fume hoods for product testing. The design of the mechanical systems also included fire-water containment strategies and sewage water filtration systems.

A new building automation and monitoring system (BAS) was also installed in support of a newly developed Quality Management program associated with the GMP upgrade.
