Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment Phase 1

In May 2022, construction began on the redevelopment of Burnaby Hospital, for which Quasar is providing Mechanical Engineering services to the developer and contractor, EllisDon.

The Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment Project is part of Fraser Health’s commitment across the region to modernize the healthcare network, build capacity and improve timely access to quality, patient-centred care. The redevelopment focuses on transforming the hospital into a state-of-the-art patient care centre with a commitment to patient-friendly design, incorporating views of nature, access to outdoor space and light, and noise reduction.

Phase 1A of the project scope includes the design and construction of a new inpatient/outpatient tower containing 83 single-patient private rooms, a mental health and substance use unit, a maternity unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, a medical unit with negative pressure rooms, and underground parking.

Phase 1B will involve an expansion to the Support Facilities Centre and the inclusion of a new energy centre. There will also be significant renovations and improvements to existing buildings across the wider campus including the Nursing Tower.

This project is targeting LEED Gold Certification for the newly constructed patient tower.
